Sneha- A versatile singer from the land of Natya Sangeeth (Maharashtra)

Sneha Hole

Sneha

Sneha Hole – (the last name pronounced as Haule), We loved this singer from Maharashtra and she is one singer not much appreciated on Smule sing but needs a lot more attention than what she already has. Her voice is absolutely classy, her music sense is fantastic, her voice reflects that beautiful smile on her face. We want to feature her here so that all people across the world know this prodigal singer. Sneha is from Mumbai (Bombay), the capital city of Maharashtra.

MUSIC TRADITIONS OF MAHARASHTRA and its influence on India’s playback singing

We want to write a little bit about the music from Maharashtra and show how singers like Sneha show influences of the regional music. The regions’ music has evolved a lot with Mumbai as the center of India’s film industry (Bollywood). The traditional music of Maharashtra is struggling at the moment due to the lack of support from young singers which is unfortunate. Historically Maharashtra’s’ traditional music revolves around Natya Sangeet, numerous folk songs, and its great saint poets. Folk music is mainly in the style of Lavani and Povada. The Natya Sangeet- a sort of stage music that is basically performed on stages. The saint poets are Jnadev (Janeshwara), his sister Muktabai and his two brothers started yet another form of music Keerthan.

Music in Maharashtra like Marathi literature has an ancient tradition, the popularity of classical music in Maharashtra began through Gwalior. Miraj town of Sangli district is known as the ‘town of music. The world-famous Indian musical instrument the Sitar is made in this town. See the following video to get a feel of Natya Sangeet style, which brought classical music to the poor and common people. The common man was even denied from listening and enjoying music by the privileged upper class in India for a long time. The singer in the following video is Pandit Chandrakant Limaye. Enjoy, this beautiful composition, which is about a honey bee trying to extract honey from a flower. Listen to this all-time classic title “Ghei Chand Makrand” from the Marathi play “Katyar Kaljat Ghusli”.

Marathi (pertains to/from Maharashtra) Natya sangeet has a big role in India’s music industry. The most prominent figure on the National scene is none other than Deenanath Mangeshkar. He was a very popular Natya Sangeeth singer of his times, whose eldest daughter later came to known as India’s singing nightingale Lata Mangeshkar. She ruled India’s music industry for decades and is still considered the best female singer India ever had. All the children from the Mangeshkar family ended up contributing big time to India’s music industry by making it to the Bollywood playback singing.

The land where musicians like Vishnu Digambar PaluskarBhimsen JoshiBal GandharvaKumar GandharvC R VyasLata MangeshkarAsha BhonsleAjay PohankarKishori AmonkarVasantrao DeshpandeJitendra AbhishekiShubham Bhatt, and other luminaries are known in India’s music industry. Such is the contribution of the state of Maharashtra to the music industry; it is backed by the many years of traditions like the use of music in the performing arts. We knew when we wanted to identify someone to represent the state it is not going to be that easy. We were looking for singers singing mainly in Hindi and that is when we happen to see this singer with a catchy profile name momlovesguac.

It proved to us that momlovesguac, is more than a catchy profile name; we found she possesses strong singing skills. Her singing as we listened more, showed a lot of influences from Lata and Asha Mageshkar’s singing style with an unbelievable innate flawless singing.

Sneha sings many different genres of songs but her stronghold is when she sings Lata and Asha’s Hindi classics. It sounds so effortless no matter what songs she picks. We have such pleasure knowing her through Smule.

Here, Sneha sings an out-of-this-world melody Saibo (Sachin-Jigger song) with yet another strong singer Lyssa (Monalisa). The English translation of this song’s lyrics is given at the end of this blog for you to enjoy this song better. Love this one more than any other of Snehas’ invites.

Ghoomer from Padmavathy, Beautiful composition and excellent Singing, Sneha not only proves that she is very current but notes strong vocals. Love this. The power in her voice is AMAZING.

In Ankhon Ki Masti – Classic Asha Bosle Mangeshkar song. Listen to this flawless singing. Absolutely brilliant. The first voice is a collaborator with the profile name S_A_M_I_N_A.  Anupallavi on is Sneha join in singing. ENJOY this and later beautiful movie clip from Umrao Jaan and beautiful Rekha in the video

Rangilare– Lata Mangeshkar; all departments of singing 100 %. Typical classic Bollywood; “Lata stamp” all over very tough to sing; here Sneha did a wonderful job with this song. Flawless. One doubt, did it lack that “feel” from Lataji’s version?

Aake teri Bahon Me, we personally like this song because of my love for SPB and again Sneha proves to us she is flawless each time. Lataji classic.  Sneha sing all these songs perfectly but made the sound her own, rather than simple Karaoke.

Bhaage re man Sneha joining Lyssa again in this Sunidhi Chauhan song, not perfect but still very nice.

Sneha with Tijamal Abbas a very unusual talent from Pakistan singing this very unique form of a singing style called Qawwali. Golden song  Aye agar Dushman and golden performances. Jamal is an awesome singer we found on Smule Sing. He may be followed here. We might cover him later on this blog beginning of February 2018.

We leave you with the translation of a beautiful lyric written in the recent music industry, Saibo. The first song by Sneha is up on the page. Hope you enjoyed reading about Sneha and please come back next week to know another locale singer from the state of Tamil Nadu.

We wish Sneha all the best wishes and regards for being the sport while working on this blog. A true professional and great personality. We are completely awed.

Here Sachin-Jigger’s Saibo (Sachin_Jigger also hail from the state of Maharashtra (born in Gujrat) are recent time most popular musicians in Bollywood)

(This blog gives a lot of respect for the lyricists and music directors who create all the magic and singers who care about the lyrics when they sing. So we decided to pick some of the best lyrics written for Indian movies to include every week. If you have a favorite please write and let us know.)

Saibo (LYRICS by Sameer) ENGLISH TRANSLATION

This mind, my lord, knows everything

Yet it makes excuses

These eyes, my King, see everything

Yet they don’t recognize the signs

this mind, my lord, it makes excuses

These eyes, my king, it refuses to acknowledge the signs

Slowly Slowly…

These eyes… slowly slowly…

This soul… slowly slowly…

Is enchanted by you

Slowly Slowly

This stranger… slowly slowly

Now feels like my own

There’s news in the air

About the union of two hearts

There’s desire in those glances

For this moment to stay forever

O Lord, how do these lips tell you

They seem to be silent, yet they hide wonders
