We will be putting out top 10 songs each month with an insight to the singers that singing the top songs from all the regional languages once every month, selecting one single regional language of choice. We are doing this Himalayan task to encourage singers who come here to read our blog to get an insight into the music from India. The most happening regional languages will be focus; in respect Tamil, Malayalam, Marati, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Odiya, Assamese. Other movies from less prominent languages will be covered when something significant happens in that region.
This week we start from southern most state of Kerala and its top charts. Here is the No. 1 position
Movie – 9 (Nine) Song – Akale, Singers – Harib Hussain & Anne Amie, Lyrics – Harinarayanan, Preeti Nambiar Music – Shaan Rahman. The most happening music director/singer Shaan Rahman who always seem to be very encouraging to give opportunities to new singers.
Harib Hussain came from a Reality show and have sung for few other movies earlier. Kanneeril from Johny Johny Yes Papa, Aaranu Nee with smule fame Megha Josekutty and Kozhiyumo from movie My Story. His singing style is a bit of influences of sufi touch and Adnan style, which seems new voice for Malayalam.
The female singer Ann Amie is the recent super star of Malayalam music industry with last year have sung some remarkable songs for two Malayalam movies. She is the find of music director Shaan Rahman. She was first identified through Idea Star singer competitions (2007). Last year she sang for two major movies, one for the Mammotty movie “Pullikaran Sara” song Kilivathilin Chare Nee for music director M. Jayachandran (so hard for this director to give a song to someone other than Shreya).
She also sung Aararo in Anjali Menon movie Koode. The latter song in our review seems like more solid singing and give her a look of a singer to stay here. She also sung for many more movies Pyppin Chuvattile Pranayam, (with Bijibal), Aravindante Athidhikal, Kumbalangi Nights (with Sooraj Santhosh) and for movie June. Considering the most happening female singer we are embedding an interview with her (see below). She also sung her first song in Telugu and the music director Shaan Rahman who gave her this opportunity as well. It seems she is sure going to be getting a lot more opportunities this year.
No2 position
This week is taken by Jan Prakashan Aathmavin again Shan Rahman music director song on the top here. The Singer is music director himself in this song. The female voice is Goury Lekshmi
The female singer is a super talent called Gowry Lekshmi is a music lyricist / composer/ singer from the great city of Cochin. She produced few independent songs; one of it was taken by a movie director and uses in his movie; thus started a new career for this music director/singer in India’s music industry. Listen to the beautiful song Sakhiye from movie Cassanova music directed and sung by Gowrey. She went onto sing for many music directors like Prasanth Pillai and Rex Vijayan ( another happening music director). She is a Phenomenal singer of Malayalam with enormous entrepreneurship. When she was in need of money to make her music videos, she went onto do crowd funding.

Song Name : Uyiril Thodum Music Composed and Arranged : Sushin Shyam Singers : Sooraj Santhosh, Anne Amie Lyrics : Anwar Ali. The music director Sushin Shyam did an excellent job for this movie. An english song in this movie sing by Zia is yet to reach the top ten. He is the keyboardist of the song group Down Trodence.
The male singer is super talented Sooraj Santhosh, who need no introduction. He sang for more than twenty Malayalam movies now and with a promising singing career ahead as a leading male singer in the industry.
No 4 Song: Aarum Kaanaathe Singer: Adheef Mohammad Lyrics: Harinarayanan BK Composed, Programmed and Arranged by: Shaan Rahman. This is really a remarkable achievement for this new singer Adheef to get this chance in a very competitive market. Adheef Mohammad is new comer, very young singer; also this is his second song after his first song Mayilaale from movie Cappuccino; where he sung the chorus in a Vineeth Srinivasan song. That performance was a remarkable one. Small steps but this seems like a big leap for this singer.
No5 Song Name : Enthanee Mounam Singers : Karthik , Sharon Joseph Music : Prince George Lyrics : Jis Joy. The female singer Sharon is a phenomenal success singing not only in Malayalam but in Hindi as well. The lyricist Jis Joy is the reason for the success of this singer. Sharon have sung with K. J. Yesudas in Chinna dada a feat many cherish a life time. She is a lyricist who can sing and write lyrics in many languages.
No 6 Song Kondoram Singer Sudeep Kumar ( a super singer), Shreya Ghoshal. Sudeep Kumar is a leading male voice in many south India movie playback singing and have established a place with an excellent voice quality.
No 7 Njan Prakashan’ – Featuring Fahadh Faasil Music: Shaan Rahman Lyrics: Hari Narayanan Directed by: Sathyan Anthikad Written by: Sreenivasan Produced by: Sethu Mannarkkad Singer: Yadhu S Marar, Shaan Rahman. Yadhu S Marar came to popularity through Super 4 reality show on Mazhavil Manorama. This is his debut song in movies and it is up the charts looking good for this singer.
No 8 Song Name : Minni Minni Music – Ifthi Singer – Amritha Suresh Lyrics – Vinayak Sasikumar. Singer came to fame from Idea Star singer and her rocky marriage with movie actor Bala and a divorce, all probably could have been very disruptive in her singing career. She proves here, she is still going strong with her song in the movie June, up the charts here. A very commendable singer, our prediction to rise to a leading singer stature in the coming year.
No 9 Enoruvan by Mohanlal, Surprised? yes we are. Not mainly known for a singing talent, yet as Malayalees love this actor so much whatever he do is a hit. It is Super star Mohanlal on the chart top 9; Singer : Mohanlal Lyrics : Prabha Varma Music: M Jayachandran
No 10 Song Name : Puthiyoru Pathayil Music – Sushin Shyam (second chart buster) Singer – Nazriya Nazim Lyrics – Vinayak Sasikumar, This super talented young Malayalam actress who came back to movies after a short break from movies, (when she got married to Malayalam movie actor Fahad Fazil) is making big strides in her singing career. She already have sung for about fifteen songs in Malayalam movies. Every time she sings, people are hooked to her songs. It proves that she is a super talent in singing. Here she take a coveted 10th place in the chart.

The most happening people here in Malluwood industry are music directors Shaan Rahman, Sushin Shyam and the female singer Ann Amie.
Lyrics field have seen many new comers. We will be writing about the new Lyricists of this industry and their songs in a separate feature. Among new male voices Harib Hussain singing a chart buster and steadily showing association with the music director Shaan Rahman make us think that we are going to see this singer more often.
The phenomenal singing by Sudeep Kumar of Odiyan song made him establish a place as a leading singer. In that respect Amritha Suresh and Sooraj Santhosh are the other two most promising singers from the new comers that show promising career strides for this year.
We will be following very closely Smule singers Amal Shankar and Megha Josekutty from Smule Malayalam who have already started their playback singing careers.
