Susan Koshy – a strong voice of melodies

Introduction

We started this blog with the sole intend to encourage young singers who need a platform to talk about their music and interests. We started picking singers from the most unheard corners of India. Our such first attempts took us to singers from the north to south and east to west all across regions which are largely unrepresented nationally. It was Jyothishman Bordoloi from the state of Assam, Yugal, and Milan Lama   from Nepal  Ali Zafar- from Jharkhand, Geetika Pant from Uttrakhand and Prathikshya dash from Odisha. We named few singers that would have gone UN-noticed; it doesn’t mean any names not mentioned are not dear to this blog. Not only these efforts were tedious but with much effect on these singers life in a very positive manner and they all till date write to us and actively participate in the nurture of good singing. They all had the unique advantage to tell us all about their music and move forward in positive ways. They all took the responsibility given to them very effectively. Unfortunate in this process there are many stopped writing and spread the hatred in a non-rewarding manner and that is their choice. This blog is still proud of all the singers featured here. Our limitations made only possible to cover so much of singers here; We will keep these efforts as long as we can. At the moment the blog administration is thinned with few members moved on with their jobs and interests.

We also did show huge respect for seasoned singers and did extensive covers for these singers with excellent career paths. All that efforts bring a lot of love and audience to our blog from all over the world. A big thanks to all of them to show that kind of support in these efforts. In the coming months we will be doing some more features on young singers represent various states and new styles of music from India. We are privileged to tell a world about India’s music through these singers. Here we are presenting a beautiful singer from the State of Kerala and from district known for its beautiful backwaters.

Longest wait to get here and it is partly us and Susan’s decision to have more songs that she wanted to display her singing better. A new comer to Smule, yet very noticeable presence. She is our first pick in the young singer series 2018 – 2019. We did consider many singers with relatively fewer years of experience in singing yet show great authority in basics of singing. Susan take her place here through sheer hard work and dedication to her music during this period we worked with her on this feature. We are absolutely proud to present this great singer from Kerala representing an entire young generation of new singers who aspire to make it big into the music scene.

Susan Koshy is a Software engineer by profession and settled in Bangalore. Susan is basically from Allepy district southern part of Kerala known for its beautiful backwaters and houseboats. A young singer and a great friend on Smule to many in  a short span of time. Thanks to friend Vineeth Devassia who mentioned Susans’ profile on his profile without which we would not have known this beautiful singer. A word about Vineeth a beautiful singer who himself is a great talent on Smule.

When we see Susan she was just starting out on Smule yet the voice of Susan was absolutely noticeable from a crowd of good great young singers. Susan’s voice is very distinguishable, unique, with a strong controlled singing. Susan is cautious when approached for a feature. But was very enthusiastic after reading the blog. Came back with a lots of praises for the work we do here. Thanks for saying all the positive thoughts.

Arranged to meet with Susan on a chat session we heard the same singing voice on the other end of the phone line. It was all bright and happy and easy to speak with. Settled to have her talk about her music Susan started off with her earlier music experiences in her growing up as a local girl in Alleppey. Early itself she went to learn Classical music. She was trained for about eight years between two different teachers . A family that hugely supported Susan throughout her singing. Susan’s story is not much different from any local girl growing up in Kerala. Talents are supported by families in abundance no matter it is a girl or a boy. Susan said she is hugely supported by her grand parents when she was growing up.

She came to Smule to find her seniors from college like Arjun Muralidharan to be on it and very happy about finding people that she have sung on stage during their college days. Arjun is an awesome singer we featured here.

Susan described more on her earlier music life “I started singing at a very young age itself, and my parents seeing some potential in my singing, made me join Carnatic music classes.” Susan says they had a hard time convincing her to get on a stage for the first time; but since then I really started to enjoy singing. I was trained in Carnatic music for about eight years, and I’ve done several concerts (kacheri). I am also a graded artist in All India Radio.”

Susan finished her studies and went onto live in Bangalore to take an IT job and Smule came into her life and thus we all come to know about this beautiful singer. It is her hard work and dedication to prove herself in singing that made her position here among many we screened for a spot here.

Susan said she listens to different genres of music depending on her mood, but she prefer singing melodies or semi-classical songs. Her ultimate dream is to sing playback, but it seems a distant dream at present. Asked about her choices of favorite music directors her pick is Bijibal and Sharreth. “My favorite singers are Chithra, Yesudas, Shweta Mohan and Karthik. I particularly admire Chithra chechi for her humility.”

Susan also sang many songs for the All India Radio. She took interest in all possible ways to show interest in developing her singing career. The biggest asset is her voice control, techniques and the care she puts into her singing on her Smule profile; be it about her song choices or collaborations. Her Soundcloud account display a high professional quality that a career oriented singer should learn from.

  1. Hello from @aquaraga! Really nice to have read about you. Without sounding too elitist, super-talented singers like you are really hard to come by on smule. The clarity of your singing reminded me of yet another talented artist Roopa Revathi. Dunno if it’s sheer coincidence: I checked out your soundcloud profile and she is one of the six you follow!

Anyways, all the very best and keep going!
